So far, I have been very pleased with their work. It’s not quite finished however from what I’ve seen so far, they definitely get five stars. I asked them not to clean up the scrap lumber because I wanted it. You would’ve thought I had asked for their first born male child.😂 They do not like to leave any type of debris around. Thank you, Todd. It’s been a pleasure so far.

My neighbor had her small porch area screened and highly recommended Bates and Sons. I was impressed with the quality of workmanship and called them on October 28 to set up an appointment for an estimate. The lady I spoke with was very pleasant, but explained that they were really covered up with storm repairs and it would be the first part of December before anyone was available. I certainly understood this, given the severity of the storm, so we set up an appointment for Dec. 4 at 2pm. Nobody came. I waited until 3:30 to call and was told that they were delayed on another job. At first she indicated that it would be February before it could be rescheduled, but she would talk to someone to see if there was another day that they could "squeeze me in." She called back very promptly and we rescheduled for Dec. 12 at 2pm. I was getting out-of-town visitors, but I didn't want to further delay it. My friends and I got done with sight-seeing and got back to the house at 1pm. Nobody came. Nobody called. I phoned a couple of times, beginning at 2:45 until about 4pm...nobody answered and I couldn't leave a message. So bottom line, I wasted 6 weeks where I could have found someone else to do the work. If you're too busy to take on any more work, just say so and we can all move on. But don't make promises you can't keep.

After reading these reviews, I now understand why his rating is so low. Apparently, he has a history of poor business practices. I contacted this business through Jotform on December 15th and received a confirmation that the request for an estimate had been received. After the initial request was received, it then took 10 days for Mr. Bates to respond at which time he emailed and stated that he would follow up on the appointment request on the following Monday. On Tuesday, I sent Mr. Bates an email stating that I had expected to hear from him on Monday. I did not even get the courtesy of a reply at all. Let me just say for the record that experience proves that if it is that difficult to communicate with a contractor at the request for estimate stage when they should be trying to earn your business, you don't have a prayer after the contract is signed. Really poor business practices and not someone I would want to do business with. Too bad there is not a zero star rating.

Highly recommend this company to anyone in the area! They got a quote back to me quickly, and put me right on the calendar to get the job done. We had gutters installed at our home, and they were able to match the ones we already had on the house. I also wanted to match the color to paint our decking, and he even cut me a small piece of the material so I can use it for color matching. Overall, amazing service and great customer experience. Had a guy come out for an estimate. What a joke!!! 2 weeks later and still no estimate no nothing. My wife has called once 7 days after the initial visit and still nothing. I have since used South Point in Aiken and while waiting on my estimate for 2 weeks that I never got I’ve had gutters, gutter guards, and shutters installed. Bates & sons are pretty pathetic imo!!
